The Discrimination Of African Americans - 880 Words

Within any society there will be discrimination whether someone is discriminated by his or her race, gender or sexual orientation. One of the most infamous types of discrimination is towards African Americans. From the birth of the United States to today’s society there has been discrimination towards African Americans. From schools to homes there has been discrimination. Although the racism is nowhere near as harsh today as it used to be it is still around. When the United States was first created there was much work to be done, too much for just the Americans. With all the work to be done and the greed from the newcomers there was a massive slave trade to the new land. Slave traders would go to Africa, find the strongest men and women, capture them and bring them back to American to sell them. For years slaves did all of the work and for years they tried to become â€Å"equal†. The first time equality given to African Americans was in 1865 when the 13th amendment was established, which abolished prohibited slavery. A few years later in 1868 â€Å"the 14th amendment granted former slaves ‘equal protection’†. Although African Americans were granted all of these rights there was still a vast amount of discrimination as there is today. One of the most controversial things in history is segregation.
